Rant: That agency in Austin that promised the moon and delivered a cardboard box

I had a consulting gig back in March where a big agency in Austin outsourced a project to me, then took all the credit and left me holding the bag when the code broke. Is it better to build your own reputation slowly or just take the money and run with these middleman setups?

Middlemen always take the credit and none of the blame. That's the whole business model right there. Build your own reputation slow and steady, even if it takes years. One happy client referring another adds up way more than any quick check from a shady agency gig.

@the_robin says "shady agency gig" like every single one is a scam.

@webb.hannah Maybe the real scam is thinking a middleman who calls your clients "leads" won't also sell your contact info to a Nigerian prince.
