A decade to ditch my record collection.

Parting with them was tough after so long. How do you handle similar clutter?

My cousin in Portland kept every concert ticket from the 90s in a shoebox. When she finally tossed them, it felt like losing a part of her youth. I get that with records, each album has a story tied to a specific time in your life. What helped me was digitizing my favorites first, so the music stayed even if the vinyl went. Then I donated the rest to a local library sale. It's crazy how much lighter you feel after clearing out that kind of clutter!

Scan the covers too, @maxs15, then let them go.

I mean, going digital misses the point for me. The whole vibe of a record is in the weight of the vinyl and the big album art you can actually touch. Tossing them out is like deleting a chunk of your own history that you can't get back. Sure, you save space, but you lose the real thing that connects you to those memories. Maybe it's just me, but I'd keep the clutter and know the stories are still right there on my shelf. Donating them might help someone else, but it doesn't keep your personal tie to the music.
