Hired movers for the first time after 10 years of DIY moves

Always thought paying someone else to pack and haul my stuff was throwing money away. I'd rent a U-Haul, grab some friends with pizza and beer, and call it good. Last move from Denver to Boulder though... my back gave out on the stairs of my third floor apartment. Buddy of mine said just hire a crew for $800. Did it. They wrapped everything, had it loaded in 2 hours. No broken dishes. No buddy owing me a favor. Might never go back. Anyone else finally cave and hire it out?

Your "throwing money away" line hit me hard because that was me for years. I was the guy recruiting buddies with promises of pizza and cheap beer, then wondering why my back was wrecked for a week. But yeah, I finally caved on my last move too. Paid $900 for a crew to pack my whole two bedroom in Omaha. Walked into the new place and everything was already in the right rooms, nothing broken, not even a scratched table leg. Made me realize I wasn't being cheap before, I was just being stubborn about something that wasn't worth the hassle. Now I tell everyone to just pay for it if they can.

Buddy of mine said just hire a crew" - it's usually way more than one buddy!

Three buddies minimum if you actually want it done right.
