Serious question about using Trello for everything

My old project manager told me I should stop using Trello for complex projects and switch to something like Jira. I thought she was just overcomplicating things so I kept using Trello for this 6 month web dev project. After 3 months of constant card shuffling and lost dependencies I finally switched to Jira and it saved my workflow. But now I'm wondering was she right or did I just use Trello wrong? Anyone else have a tool that worked great until it totally didn't?

Wait, @miaprice totally nailed it - Jira felt like waving a white flag at first, but sometimes you gotta admit when a tool just ain't cutting it for the big stuff. That card shuffle nightmare hit me too, and it's brutal when you're trying to keep track of all those moving parts.

$450 a month for the top tier and I was ready to walk away... but hearing @the_john and @miaprice both say the same thing makes me feel like I was being stubborn about it. I used to think any tool that costs that much was a rip off, but now I'm starting to see how the big picture stuff actually matters for keeping my team sane. The way you two describe hitting that wall with other tools is exactly where I was last quarter. Maybe I need to stop fighting it and just make the switch already.

OH man, I was totally in the same boat! Switched to Jira last year and it felt like admitting defeat but honestly I should have done it way sooner.
