Hot take: charging per revision is actually fair for everyone
I used to offer unlimited revisions because I thought it made me look good and client friendly. After 3 months of doing that in 2023, I had one guy in Denver send me 14 rounds of tweaks on a single 500 word blog post. I was getting paid $50 flat for the whole thing. Now I include 2 rounds in my base price and charge $15 for each extra round. It actually works better for both sides because clients think harder about what they actually want before sending feedback. I still get the same amount of projects but way less back and forth. Has anyone else made this switch and seen their stress level drop?

That makes a ton of sense. Unlimited revisions sound like a nightmare, honestly. Putting a cap on them forces people to actually think through what they want before sending it back, instead of just throwing random changes at you. Your pricing for extra rounds covers the hassle, too. It's a win-win because you stop chasing your tail and clients realize their time has value as well.

My buddy Marco runs a small graphic design shop in Austin and he used to do unlimited revisions too... a client in the real estate space kept asking him to swap out stock photos of houses on a brochure 11 times across two weeks. Each time it was just a different angle of the same suburban home. He was so fried by the end he almost quit design altogether. @kimr91 is right, that cap forces people to actually look at what they're asking for instead of just running wild with changes. Marco switched to 3 rounds included with $20 for extras and he said his weekends actually feel like weekends now.

Read a freelance blog post last year that broke down how unlimited revisions actually hurt the client too because it made them indecisive and slowed down their whole workflow. Putting a limit forces them to focus their feedback into something useful instead of throwing spaghetti at the wall. Sounds like you found a good balance that respects both sides without burning yourself out.
