Tried those folding hangers for compact closets and my shirts came out looking like origami

Picked up a 10 pack of those space saving hangers from the hardware store last weekend because my closet rod was getting crowded. Figured I could triple my hanging space easy, no big deal. But after a week I noticed all my button downs had these weird creases on the shoulders where the hanger folded over. Ended up tossing half of them in the donate pile because I couldn't get the wrinkles out. Anyone else run into warped clothes from these things?

Respectfully, my shirts from Target looked fine after a week with those same hangers.

@zaranelson brings up a fair point, and I think the material of the shirt matters a lot here. My experience was with cotton button downs, not the stretchy or synthetic fabrics that Target sells. Those folded hangers left permanent creases on the shoulders after just a few days. It might be that cheaper shirts handle the pressure better because the fabric is looser. I tried steaming the wrinkles out but they came back every time I hung the shirt back up. So it really depends on what you are hanging. For thicker or softer fabrics they might work fine, but for crisp dress shirts they are a waste of money.

Cotton button downs are the worst for those hangers, but your steaming issue sounds like a fabric blend problem, not the hanger.
