Three years back I was coding WordPress sites for $200 a pop in Denver
Last week I got a call from a guy in Portland who wanted me to rebuild his whole ecommerce store for $150. I laughed and told him I charged that much three years ago when I was still figuring out PHP. He got mad and said freelancers in 2024 are greedy. Has anyone else seen clients expect 2020 prices for 2024 work?

...and here's what I really want to know though. Did you ask him why he thinks your time is worth less now than it was three years ago? Because that's the part that gets me with these clients. They see inflation everywhere else - groceries, rent, gas - but somehow our skills should stay frozen in time. The guy probably spends $6 on a fancy coffee every morning but balks at paying a fair rate for actual technical work.

Agree 100% with you @juliaa65, it's wild how they expect us to just eat the cost of everything going up while they do nothing. Had a client last year try to haggle me down to my 2019 rate like I hadn't learned anything or gained any new skills since then. Meanwhile the dude drives a brand new truck and complains about a $50 price increase on a project that saves him hundreds every month.
