Shoutout to that one random freelancer who told me to stop underbidding

I met this guy at a Starbucks near Yonge and Dundas last March. He was a freelance illustrator and he told me flat out that my $25/hour rate was hurting everyone. He showed me his own rate sheet with a minimum of $65. I thought he was full of it at first. But I bumped my rate to $40 for the next three projects and every single one accepted without negotiating. Has anyone else run into that kind of pushback when you try to raise your prices?

And once you hit that $40 mark the clients actually started treating you like a pro.

My yarn store tried raising prices once and half the customers left in a huff about it.
