The electrician I hired for my attic fan install had an ancient drill from 1982

He showed up to my house in Austin last Tuesday with this beat up corded Black and Decker that looked like it survived a war. I mean, the thing still worked fine but it made me wonder why someone charging $150 an hour wouldn't drop $60 on a decent cordless. Anyone else run into pros using gear that's way older than it should be?

Bet that old drill was built like a tank though. Probably outlasts the new stuff they sell now. @kevinw94 I've seen old timers bring stuff like that on purpose, they don't trust the new batteries to hold a charge all day.

A beat up corded drill from 1982... that thing probably weighs like 10 pounds and has a cord you have to drag through the attic... Did he at least have a newer hammer drill or impact driver in his bag or was that the only drill he brought to the whole job? Makes you wonder if the rest of his tools are from the Reagan era too...

Yeah but have you ever tried hanging a ceiling fan with a corded drill from 1982? That thing will twist your arm off when it catches and the cord gets tangled on every joist.
