Six months after I swapped my front door weatherstripping, the difference is insane
I live in Bellingham and the draft from my front door was terrible last winter. My heating bill was averaging $180 a month just to keep the living room warm. I finally got around to replacing the old rubber weatherstripping with a new foam strip from the hardware store. It took maybe 20 minutes and cost like $12. This winter my heating bill dropped to around $130 a month. I can actually sit near the door without feeling a cold breeze. Has anyone else noticed a big jump in comfort after sealing up drafts around their place?

Nah, I never noticed a difference. Probably just a coincidence with the weather.

That "draft from the front door was terrible" part hit home for me, I had the exact same problem in my old house. I used a rubber silicone strip instead of foam and it sealed up the gaps way better, my heating bill dropped about $30 a month too. It's wild how something so simple makes that much difference.

Adding a rubber silicone strip made a huge difference for me too... I actually stacked two strips on my front door because the gap was so uneven. The foam strips I tried first just compressed too much and didn't hold up after a few months, started peeling right off. It's funny how you don't realize how much cold air is sneaking in until you actually block it, then the whole room feels warmer. I also put those little foam pads behind the outlet covers on exterior walls, that helped a bit extra without costing much.
