inDuring a repair group potluck, I said budget soldering irons are fine. The awkward pause said it all.
Actually, a wet sponge can shock and crack a hot tip over time. A lot of people use brass wool instead, it cleans without the sudden cool down. Abby_brown's story about the tip going bad fast is a perfect example of how that happens. Constant wet sponge use just speeds up the damage on cheaper irons. You want to keep the tip tinned with solder, not just wipe it clean.

inShowerthought: I was listening to a podcast where a guy said 'a fence is only as good as the ground it sits on' and it made me think about my last job in that sandy soil near the coast.
Tell me about that sandy soil job.

inCan we talk about how I changed my mind on internal linking for my hobby site?
Read a blog that called internal links the site's own recommendation engine.

inVent: I had to pick between a long, fancy email or a short, direct one for a big pitch.
Wait, you said "maybe that's wrong." What makes you think writing the long ones could be wrong, @ross.dakota? Is it just a feeling or did you read something specific that changed your mind? I'm curious because I've always leaned toward longer answers too, but now you've got me wondering if we're both missing something. Is the problem that they take too much time, or do people just not read them?
