My buddy Pete tried to save money on his fixer-upper reno. He got that super cheap, flimsy foam underlayment for the whole living room. The day they finished, you could feel every single seam and hear a weird crunch with every step. They had to pull up all the new planks and do it over with the right pad. He said the waste of time and extra material cost hurt way more than just buying good stuff first.
