inRant: My miter saw kept binding on wet pressure treated 2x12s.
Isnt that the thing though, how we always reach for a quick fix like WD-40 instead of just letting the wood dry or getting a proper blade? @michael_williams saw that sawdust smolder himself, which is exactly the kind of lazy shortcut that catches up to you later, whether its on a jobsite or trying to unclog a sink with Draino.

inOverheard a kid in my chair say he gets his fade tutorials from TikTok and it hit me how much the trade has changed since I learned on a real head in 1985
Sure, but I gotta push back a little on that "feeling it go wrong" thing. I mean, if you watch a detailed tutorial from a pro barber who explains the angle and the tension slowly, you can pick up the "feeling" without ever cutting a real head. My cousin learned to do skin fades just by studying online videos for two weeks, bought a cheap mannequin head, and his first real haircut was cleaner than anything I did in my first year. The problem isn't online learning itself, it's people skipping the basics and just trying to copy a flashy move without understanding the mechanics behind it.

inBroke my favorite camp stove burner on a trip to Moab last spring, now I always carry a spare fuel line.
You ever try packing a little alcohol stove as a backup? I picked up a Trangia clone for like 15 bucks a few years back, fits inside my cook pot. It's dead simple, no moving parts to break, just pour in some fuel and light it. Saved my ass twice already when my main stove acted up.

inUnpopular opinion: I used to think laser levels were a waste of money for flooring work
Did you ever look back and wonder how much time you wasted fighting with a bubble level? I did the same thing for years until I borrowed a laser from a buddy for a tile job. Now I feel dumb for not switching sooner, it saves so much headache.

inTried asking a question here with a really specific number and got a totally different answer than I expected
Grace has a point though... sometimes cutting back is the only real move if you're tapped out on time and energy. Pretending everyone can just find extra income ignores how worn down people already are.
