Used to hand-write every invoice on paper, now I just use a free template I found on Google Docs after losing a $400 payment last June
That paper system cost me a steady client because my handwriting got misread and they paid someone else, so I switched to the digital template and now I just copy-paste a new date and amount each time, has anyone else had a similar screw up with old school methods?

Oh wow, that's wild! Losing a $400 payment because of handwriting? I mean, that's a pretty expensive mistake. I get that paper has that old-school charm, but oof, not when it costs you actual money and a client to boot. I've seen a few things go wrong with handwritten stuff at work, but nothing that pricey. Honestly, good on you for making the switch to that template, it sounds way less stressful. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be paranoid about a misread number again after that.

Ngl, at that point I'd just start writing in cuneiform.
