Vent: Spent years stacking photos wrong after a talk at the Griffith Observatory

I was at a talk at the Griffith Observatory 2 years back, and the speaker showed how he layers his deep-sky images. Turns out I had been stacking my nebula shots with the wrong calibration frames the whole time, just using darks and not bias frames. A guy next to me pointed out my Andromeda shot had a gradient from the sensor noise I wasn't removing. Anyone else realize they were skipping a calibration step for way too long?

Remember when we used to hand mix mud?

I was at a supply house last week and saw a guy carrying a bucket of pre-mixed. Made me think about the early 2000s mixing 5 bags of powder a day. My arms got stronger but my wrist paid the price. Anybody else's joints thank the invention of good pre-mix?

Surprised by how much humidity affects bread dough

I always knew humidity was a factor but last Tuesday I measured it exactly for the first time. My kitchen was at 70% humidity and my dough was sticky and overproofed by 45 minutes compared to my usual recipe. Turns out high humidity adds enough water from the air to change the whole hydration balance. Has anyone else noticed their bread acting different on rainy days?

That brushless motor hype got me, but the battery gave out mid-cut on a paying customer yesterday, so has anyone else had luck getting those companies to actually honor their warranty?

I booked a day pass at a place in Medellin last week that used to be my go-to, and it was packed with people on Zoom calls in every corner with zero soundproofing. Has anyone else noticed coworking spaces getting louder and less focused over the years?

My brother insisted I preheat the air fryer for 10 minutes every time

He said it makes everything crispier, but I tried it with frozen chicken strips and they came out dry as a bone after 12 minutes. Has anyone else been told to preheat for that long or is my brother just wrong?

Found a trick for sorting my back issues that actually saved me 2 hours

I've got about 400 comics stuffed in long boxes and I could never find anything. Last weekend I started sorting them by publisher first, then alphabetically by series, then by issue number. Took me a Saturday but now I can grab any book in under a minute. My old way was just by release year and it was a mess. Anyone else got a sorting system that actually works or am I overthinking this?

Unpopular opinion: not all upfront deposits are a red flag, some clients just want you to prove you'll show up

After a guy in Indianapolis bailed on a $2,100 landscaping job two years ago, I started asking for a 25% deposit and it actually weeded out the tire kickers and got me paid on time more often than not, anyone else find that a small deposit helps more than it hurts?

Just found a creek crossing shortcut on the Appalachian Trail near Roanoke that saved me 4 miles

Last month I was hiking through Virginia and a local pointed out this unmarked bypass around a big ridge, and I swear it cut out more than an hour of climbing, has anyone else stumbled onto a route like that that actually worked out?
