My first freelance logo gig went from $50 to $500 in 6 months, here's what changed

Back in January I landed my very first logo job through a Facebook group. I charged $50 because I was terrified of asking for more. The client was a buddy who owned a food truck in Austin, and he basically let me do whatever I wanted. Fast forward to last month and I did a full brand package for a local coffee shop for $500. The difference was simple: I stopped guessing and started showing past work. I created a simple one-page PDF with 3 of my best logos and explained my process step by step. That PDF made people take me way more seriously, and they stopped haggling on price. Has anyone else seen a big jump in what they could charge just by changing how they present themselves?

Hey man that's awesome, seriously. That PDF thing is such a simple move but it totally changes the game. I had a similar thing happen with my pricing when I started putting together a real looking portfolio instead of just sending a link to my Instagram. People stop treating you like a hobbyist once you show them you actually understand the whole process from start to finish.

Heard a podcast with some freelance photographer who said the same thing. She used to just send clients a link to her Instagram and wondered why they'd haggle on price. Then she started putting together a proper client deck with mood boards, timelines, and past work breakdowns. Said her rates nearly doubled within six months. It's wild how something as simple as formatting can completely shift how people see your value. Sounds like you saw the same thing with the PDF move.

@wesley639 nailed it with that portfolio tip. I actually read this article a few weeks back about how people trust you way more when you show them the full package, not just the final result. It's like when you walk into a mechanic's shop and see all their certifications on the wall, you feel better about them touching your car. Same thing with a PDF or a proper portfolio doc. It shows you've put thought into the whole deal, not just the pretty pictures. Honestly that one change probably got me more serious inquiries than anything else I tried.
