inMy old freelance contract had a 'kill fee' clause that cost me $2,500 on a project that fell apart.
Charge a flat rate for each project phase instead of one total fee. That way you get paid for the work you finish before they pull the plug. It saved me from getting burned on a few jobs.

inI used to roll my eyes at the 'freezer trick' for sticky shutter blades, but a stubborn Minolta X-700 from a garage sale last month proved me wrong.
Remember to let the assembly warm up slowly to avoid condensation damage.

inVent: My plotter decided to have a meltdown right before a deadline
Victor's right about the residue thing, that's key. We used a specific brand of dry teflon lube in aerosol form at my last shop, just a tiny burst did the trick. Letting it dry completely before running media was the difference between perfect feeds and a huge sticky mess. Clean rollers might look nice but they really do need a bit of that controlled slip to handle thicker sheets.

inA hostel owner in Bangkok gave me the best work advice I've ever gotten
Totally get that, @dylanrodriguez. My brain will build a whole maze around a simple problem. Sometimes you just need that outside voice to point at the door you walked right past.

inSpent $300 on a project management tool and it just made things worse...
Forget the email chains, they were a mess too. That client would have just saved every single email reply instead. Bad clients find a way no matter what tool you give them. The real problem is working with people who want to fight over every comma. A comment history just shows their bad behavior more clearly, it doesn't create it.
