Exactly, simple examples are the key. How else are you supposed to get your head around the basic idea before the messy stuff comes in? I see where jesse_smith10 is coming from with real data never being clean, but you have to start somewhere, right? If you jump straight into the chaos you just get lost. A clean, simple example builds that foundation so you can actually handle the real junk later.
