Question about using a torque wrench versus the old 'feel' method on a Cessna 172's nose gear bolts

After snapping a bolt last month by going by feel, I used the calibrated wrench this morning and got a perfect 150 inch-pounds on all four without a single issue... anyone else have a story about a tool that saved you from a bigger headache?

Used to think torque wrenches were overkill for small jobs until I rounded off a drain plug on my truck. That cheap repair turned into a whole new oil pan. Now I even use one on the lawnmower blades. Sometimes the right tool is just about avoiding the expensive version of the job.

Honestly stella111 I get the idea but that feels like overkill to me. Most of us have been tightening drain plugs for years without a torque wrench and been just fine. It sounds like you just had a really bad day with that one. I worry that telling people they need a special tool for every bolt just makes simple jobs seem harder than they are. Sure, be careful, but you don't need to bring out the fancy tools for a lawnmower blade.

Rowan, that's exactly what @stella111 meant about a cheap fix getting expensive.
