Caught a crew in my area leaving a keypad defaulted to installer code

Found it on a service call for a different issue, the homeowner had no idea. That's a massive liability if someone figures out the master code. How often do you guys actually verify the end user has changed the default programming?

My old apartment complex had the same installer code on every unit for years. Nobody ever messed with the panels. The master code thing feels like a tech worry more than a real world problem. Most thieves are looking for an open window, not trying to crack a keypad they don't even know is defaulted. It's bad practice for sure, but calling it a massive liability seems like a stretch.

The "real world problem" part is what I'd push back on. It's not about thieves, it's about liability when something goes wrong and the code was never changed. Insurance companies look for that stuff after a break-in or accident.

Seen that way too often, it's a huge risk lol.
