A seized fill valve almost cost me a callback, then a $3 part saved the day
Had a dishwasher call in Fresno last Tuesday where the fill valve was stuck open and the whole unit wouldn't stop taking water. I almost ordered a new valve assembly at $58, but pulled the screen first and found a chunk of hard water scale jamming it. Popped it out, soaked it in vinegar for 20 minutes, and it's been running fine for the customer since. Any of you skip the screen check and just swap the part, or do you always dig in first?
Does pulling the screen first count as being cheap or smart? I've definitely been the guy who threw a part at it before checking the easy stuff, and my wallet still brings it up at parties. Checking the screen takes two minutes and a bucket of vinegar, which beats eating the cost of a part that was fine all along.
