Vent: I hit 300 fridge water lines replaced and my back finally made me count
Last Tuesday I was under a customer's kitchen sink in Gladstone swapping out a braided line when my lower back just locked up on me. I sat on their floor for a minute and started doing the math out of boredom, and realized I've been doing this for 9 years and that was somewhere around my 300th water line. What got me is that 300 lines at maybe 20 bucks of parts each means I've put close to $6,000 of my own money into little plastic tubing over the years. The funny part is the first 250 hardly bothered me, but lately every single one feels like a personal attack on my knees. I keep telling myself I'll start charging a minimum for these tiny calls, and then somebody's ice maker is spraying water everywhere and I cave. My wife says I should just say no to the small stuff but those quick calls are what keep the lights on in January. Anybody else keep a running tally in their head and get weirdly bothered by the total?
