Heard a guy at the hardware store say he'd never top a tree again after seeing a storm split one
He described the wound it left, and now I always explain that risk to customers. Anyone else find a simple story like that changes how you talk about a practice?

Ever think about how those stories spread fear faster than facts? A guy sees one bad outcome and tells ten people, but who's explaining the ten times topping was done right? That kind of talk can make good arborists look bad for no reason.

Yeah the "one bad outcome" thing is so true. It's like people forget that for every viral video of a tree falling on a house, there are a hundred jobs that went perfectly and nobody filmed. Bad news just makes a better story, I guess. The quiet, professional work never gets the same clicks.

Wait, he said he'd NEVER top a tree again after seeing ONE split? That's wild. Adam414 is right about the one bad outcome thing, but that's a huge overreaction. It just shows how a single scary story can totally shut down someone's thinking.
