Can we stop calling every bone fragment a ritual burial
I was at a dig near Flagstaff last summer and watched three different people online claim a scatter of deer bones was a ceremonial offering, when the site report clearly says it was a trash midden. It bugs me because jumping to ritual explanations skips the boring work of checking cut marks, weathering, and how the bones sit in the layers, and that sloppy leap is exactly how fake discoveries get spread around. What is the worst overhyped find you have seen get passed around like fact?
It's the same thing that happens with everything online, people want the exciting story so bad they skip right past the boring truth. The worst one I keep seeing is every pointed rock being called a "tool" when it's just a rock that got chipped by a plow.
