Got into a argument about how we handle fragile sites after they're found
So my buddy and I were talking about this cave painting discovery that got damaged by tourists. He says we should lock everything down to save it, but I think people have a right to see history up close. It's a mess trying to keep things safe while letting folks learn. How do you all deal with this?

It's the same reason we can't have nice parks or public libraries anymore, everything gets trashed.

But I've seen plenty of nice parks and libraries that are doing just fine. Maybe it depends on the area? The one by me is always clean because people actually use it and care for it. It feels like giving up to say everything gets ruined. Some places need more help than others, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying. Idk, maybe it's just me but I still have hope for public stuff.

When did we stop caring about things that belong to everyone?

Maybe we just stopped funding the people who clean it up. @the_lisa is right stuff gets wrecked, but if there's no one around to fix a broken bench, it just stays broken.
