inMy teenager caught a framing error I missed during a basement finish
We had a new nurse spot a med error last week that three of us night shift folks missed. But honestly sometimes fresh eyes just see different things, not always the right things? Idk maybe it's just me.

inAppreciation post: My kid's curiosity about bolts led to a fun safety lesson
Actually, a friend who works customer service at a pool supply store had a great one. Her kid asked why some things float, so she grabbed a couple empty two-liter bottles from the break room. She filled one with water, capped it, and left the other one full of air, then tossed them both in a big tub to show how the weight of what's inside changes everything. It was such a simple way to use junk from work to answer a real question (and way better than just saying "because it's lighter than water"). That kid now points out buoyancy everywhere, like at the beach or even in the bath.

inOld calendar pages as practice signatures made guiding new binders WAY easier.
That "lost art" line from @pauljackson is so true. My signature now is just a frantic scribble that looks like a doctor's note on my credit card receipts. I tried to practice it nicely once and filled a whole page, but it just devolved into weird loops that looked like a toddler's drawing of a rollercoaster. Guess I missed the phone book paper training era.

inHot take: Grain filling oak furniture is a must for any serious home refinish.
Ask jason_knight if he's run his hand over that cabinet recently. Oak pores grab dirt and skin oils over years, which could fake a smooth feel. (I mean, stuff gets stuck in there and hardens.) Does he actually use it daily, or is it just sitting there looking okay from afar? That might tell us if skipping grain fill really works or if it's just covered up.

inGot into a argument about how we handle fragile sites after they're found
But I've seen plenty of nice parks and libraries that are doing just fine. Maybe it depends on the area? The one by me is always clean because people actually use it and care for it. It feels like giving up to say everything gets ruined. Some places need more help than others, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying. Idk, maybe it's just me but I still have hope for public stuff.
