My teenager caught a framing error I missed during a basement finish

I always thought my son was too distracted to help with drywall. But last week, he pointed out a stud that was out of plumb before we hung the board. That saved us from having to redo a whole section. Now I see that fresh eyes, even young ones, can be really helpful.

Why do we overlook the simple fix right in front of us?

Stare at my phone's blank screen for ten minutes before realizing it's turned off.

Honestly it's wild how tunnel vision works on any job. You can triple check wiring for a short and miss the outlet being on a different circuit. Fresh eyes don't have your mental blind spots. That kid saved a huge headache by just seeing the wall for what it was. We get so stuck in our own way of thinking we forget to just look at the thing.

We had a new nurse spot a med error last week that three of us night shift folks missed. But honestly sometimes fresh eyes just see different things, not always the right things? Idk maybe it's just me.
