My town's new plastic bag ban has people split on its real impact.
Small steps matter, but are we just patting ourselves on the back?

Look at how much cleaner parks and drains get after these bans start. It cuts down on trash that costs millions to clean up every year. That's a direct effect, not just us being smug.

Yeah the_xena has a point about less litter, but those thicker reusable bags take way more energy to make. Swapping one problem for another sometimes.

When @aliceharris said 'swapping one problem for another', it hit on a bigger pattern I see all the time. So many green fixes, from bags to cars, just move the environmental cost somewhere else. We never get a perfect answer, just less bad choices.
