Picked a trowel with a bent handle over a straight one and regretted it all dig season
Thought the curve would give me better wrist control on a Roman site in Chester last summer, but three days in my hand was cramping so bad I had to switch back to a straight trowel borrowed from a student - has anyone else had a tool choice backfire like that?

oh man, i feel this so hard. i did the exact same thing back in 2017 on a site in suffolk, thought i was being clever by grabbing one of those ergonomic bent trowels. by day two my wrist was throbbing and i couldn't even grip it right, ended up digging with my left hand for a week. i mean, maybe it's just me but those bent handles seem like they're designed for people with totally different hand shapes or something. straight trowel forever honestly, never again.

designed for people with totally different hand shapes" - yeah, that's kind of the whole point though isn't it? what works for you doesn't work for everyone. i switched to a bent trowel a few years back and my wrist pain from the straight ones disappeared completely. maybe you just grabbed a bad brand?
