Poked around a trash pit behind my grandma's barn and found something wild

I was visiting my grandma's place in rural Indiana last month and decided to dig around this old trash pit behind her barn. I figured I'd find a few old bottles or rusted cans, but I pulled out a complete clay pipe from the 1800s with a carved bowl. My neighbor who does local history stuff identified it as a German-made trade piece from around 1840. It got me wondering - how many everyday spots have hidden history we just walk past? Has anyone else stumbled across something like that in an old family property?

Did you clean it up or leave it as-is? I found a similar clay pipe in my grandpa's old shed and just rinsing it off revealed this crazy detailed carving of a star pattern that blew my mind. It's wild to think about how many of these little artifacts are just sitting there waiting to be found, hidden in plain sight on land that's been in families for generations.

Rinsed an old bottle once and found a ghost... scared me half to death.

Maybe its just me but rinsing old finds carefully is half the fun.
