Spent 6 hours in the British Museum convinced a Roman coin was a fake
Last spring I went to the British Museum mostly to see the Sutton Hoo helmet. I brought my own little magnifier because I thought it would be fun to look at coins up close. I spent 6 hours on one Roman coin, taking 40 photos with a ruler next to it, because the edges looked wrong to me. I even asked a guard named Tom if coins ever get swapped out, and he just stared at me. Turns out it was a normal coin and I was just looking at it under bad overhead light. Anyone else ever spend a whole day eyeballing a shiny thing that turned out fine?
