The week I found a Roman coin in my backyard - and lost it three days later

Ngl, I still think about this. I was digging a new garden bed near Albany, New York, and my shovel hit something solid. Pulled out this tiny bronze coin, clearly ancient, with a faded emperor profile on it. I was so excited I posted it online and got offers up to $400. Then my dog dug it up again three days later and I never found it. That good week turned bad real fast. Has anyone else had a find slip through their fingers like that?

You say "lost it three days later" like that's some kind of TRAGEDY but honestly that coin was never REALLY yours to keep. You dug it up, showed it off online, and got greedy with those $400 offers floating in your head. Then your dog, that natural earthmover, came along and put it right back where it belonged. The ground knows what belongs to it. Maybe you should have secured it better instead of leaving it lying around like a toy. That coin has been resting for maybe 1800 years and you disturbed it for a photo and a quick buck. That's not bad luck, that's just the universe correcting itself.

Natural earthmover" is cracking me up way more than it should. That dog is out there doing archaeology work better than half the people with degrees in it. The coin didn't get lost, it got properly reburied by a professional.
