Tried digging a test pit in my backyard near Louisville, found a 1800s farm dump instead

I figured I'd just find some old bricks or maybe a pipe when I started digging a 3x3 pit behind my shed. Instead I pulled out 4 broken bottles, a rusted horseshoe, and a clay pipe stem from about 2 feet down. The whole layer was ash and charcoal, pretty clear it was an old trash pit from the 1870s or so. Has anyone else had a random backyard project turn into an unexpected dig site?

Found a whole skeleton of a cat in my crawlspace once, just bones and a collar buckle.

Oh man @thomasb41, that's wild, I found a raccoon skeleton under my porch last year and just left it there.

Wait, did you just find it and go "well, guess that's the new roommate" and leave it there? I don't think I could sleep knowing there's a cat skeleton lurking a few feet below my living room. You must have been real popular at Halloween though, having your own petrified decoration just hanging out in the crawlspace. I'd probably end up putting a little collar on a plastic skeleton and naming it Bones to make myself feel better about the whole situation.
