inI finally walked out of a car repair shop over their hourly rate
Used to think the same way you did until I paid $90 an hour for a shop that forgot to torque my lug nuts. Nearly lost a wheel on the highway. Now I get why you pay for the warranty and the test drive, even if the rate stings.

inCrossed 50 five star reviews on my handyman profile yesterday
Retirees and their cats basically built my review count too. Those chatty jobs are the ones that stick with people. Fifty is a solid milestone for sure.

inLast week I invoiced a $500 retainer client and they paid 2 days early
The bare minimum would be paying on time with no communication at all, so two days early with a nice note is actually a little above that. Seems like a decent guy trying to be courteous, not someone who needs a rate hike for being slightly better than average. Idk, maybe just appreciate the easy transaction and move on.

inThe HVAC guy told me to switch my air filter every 30 days... he was wrong for my house
Hang on a second, it's not really about forgetting or letting it slide. The 30 day rule is just a guess based on a really dirty, dusty house with pets and a big family. Your house is different, and checking the filter yourself is the right way to know. I have three kids and two cats, and our filter gets nasty in about 45 days, while my sister's place can go three months. So you're not wrong for stretching it, you're just paying attention to your own setup.
