The HVAC guy told me to switch my air filter every 30 days... he was wrong for my house
My buddy who does HVAC in Phoenix said change it monthly without fail, but my house collects dust way slower than his... after 6 months of wasting filters every 30 days, I stretched it to 60 days and the filter was still barely dirty. Has anyone else found that the standard advice doesn't fit their place?
Yeah, right? I love how the "30 days or bust" crowd acts like every house is a coal mine with a built-in fur factory. I checked mine at 45 days once and it looked like it had been on a spa vacation. Guess my house just isn't dramatic enough for monthly filter changes.
Honestly, you're playing with fire here. 30 days is the safe bet because most people forget entirely or let it slide way too long, not because every house is identical.
Hang on a second, it's not really about forgetting or letting it slide. The 30 day rule is just a guess based on a really dirty, dusty house with pets and a big family. Your house is different, and checking the filter yourself is the right way to know. I have three kids and two cats, and our filter gets nasty in about 45 days, while my sister's place can go three months. So you're not wrong for stretching it, you're just paying attention to your own setup.
