Wasted $200 on that 'premium' parking spot near downtown

Signed up for a monthly reserved spot at that deck on Peachtree back in January, thought it'd save me time but half the days it was taken by someone else anyway. Anyone else get burned by those overpriced parking apps that don't actually guarantee you a space?

I mean, that sucks and I've definitely been there. What finally worked for me was switching to a surface lot a few blocks further out that just sells you a pass and you park wherever that day. It's like half the price and nobody really tries to take your spot because it's not assigned. Then I just started parking a little earlier and walking the extra couple minutes, ended up saving like $80 a month. Maybe it's not for everyone but it beats paying for something that's not guaranteed.

Actually read a study once about how people who park further away end up saving money in the long run, not just on parking but also on car maintenance and gas from less stop-and-go driving in crowded lots. The walk also adds up to some decent exercise over time, even if it's just a few minutes each day. A friend of mine started parking at a commuter lot near a bus stop and she says the extra walking helped her hit her step goal without even trying. Did you notice any difference in how beat up your car got after switching to the surface lot?

@angela728 that study makes total sense now that you mention it! I tried a similar thing after getting burned by a paid app that let me reserve a spot only to find it taken by a truck. Switched to a cheaper lot a few blocks away and my car hasn't gotten door dinged once, plus I actually look forward to the short walk now.
