Spent $300 on a premium LinkedIn profile photo shoot and got zero new connections from it
I figured a professional headshot would make me look serious and trustworthy for networking events, but turns out nobody really cares about a well-lit photo when you're just swapping emails. Anyone else find that actual conversations at meetups matter way more than any polished online presence?

Yeah I actually used to be one of those people who thought a good headshot would make all the difference. But then I went to a local networking thing where the guy with the blurry webcam photo got three referrals because he actually listened to people. Swapped contacts with someone whose profile pic was a literal cartoon avatar and she ended up being one of my best connections. So yeah, the photo is just a door. What you do when you walk through it is what counts.

Wait, you're telling me that guy with the blurry webcam photo got three referrals just because he actually paid attention? That's wild because I used to be all about the headshot thing too. I spent like an hour picking the right background for mine and even bought a ring light. But then I started noticing the same thing at events - the people who actually follow up and remember your name win, no matter what their profile looks like. Honestly, that cartoon avatar story got me. Maybe I've been overthinking this whole thing and should just focus on being a better listener instead.
