A painter in Dallas asked why I still tack rag after blocking, and it got in my head
He told me he quit doing it 5 years ago and hasn't had a fish eye since, but I've eaten one too many come-backs to drop it. Do you all tack between every coat or just before sealer?
Man, I feel this in my bones. I once got a fish eye so nasty it looked like my truck had a pimple, and of course it was on the hood of a black car in the sun. I tack before sealer and between every coat, no exceptions, because a tack rag costs me about a buck and a come-back costs me a weekend. The guy in Dallas might be getting lucky with his booth, his air, or his wax and grease remover, but luck runs out. Silicone and oil don't care how long you've been spraying, they'll sit there and wait for you. I'd rather spend the extra two minutes than sand a whole panel back down. Keep doing what you're doing, your gut already knows.
