My cousin changed my mind on shop cleanup duty

Always had my kids sweep up after hours. Thought it was just chores. My cousin visited last month. Saw them sorting scrap metal. He showed them how to spot reusable parts. Saved us money on a bumper job. Now I see cleanup as training. They learn more than I thought.

That's a cool point about seeing the value in stuff we'd just toss. @umahenderson's garage story fits that too, like it teaches them to look at ordinary things differently. Maybe it builds a kind of smart instinct, not just for fixing stuff.

My brother did something like that with my son last summer. Had him help clean the garage but pointed out all the different tools and what they're for. What did your cousin have them look for first?

Started with the basics, like finding a good set of sockets and a decent hammer. That instinct thing @terry_adams19 mentioned is spot on, you see it click when they find the right tool for a job.

Guess your cousin turned chore time into free mechanic school.
