Borescope saved me on a CRJ200 flap actuator in Reno
Opened up the panel in Reno last fall and the wiring looked fine by feel. Ran the borescope through and found chafing behind a clamp that would have grounded the aircraft mid-flight. Now I spend 10 extra minutes scoping every actuator before I button up. Anyone else use a borescope on non-required checks like this?
Damn, that is wild... chafing behind a clamp of all places. You'd never catch that with just your fingers. I mean, I've done the whole feel-around thing a hundred times and it's like, okay, feels smooth, good to go. But that little hidden spot could've been a total disaster at 30,000 feet. It's scary to think how many times we get lucky without really knowing it.
