Cleaned a King Air connector with contact spray and it killed the radio for 2 days
Was chasing a weak comm signal on a King Air 200 and hit the rack connector with contact cleaner like I always do, but this time the radio flatlined for 2 days after. Turns out the spray flushed some old lube into the pins and it needed a full dry out and repin on 3 contacts. Anyone else get burned by cleaning a connector that was working fine before?
Are you sure the spray is what did it, or was that radio already on its way out and the cleaning just pushed it over the edge? I've hosed down plenty of King Air rack connectors with contact cleaner and never had one go dark for two days, so the lube in the pins sounds like it was already sitting there from whoever serviced it last. A weak signal before you even touched it makes me think you had a bad pin or a loose ground the whole time, and the spray just made the mess visible. Two days of downtime and a repin on three contacts is a real hit, but blaming the cleaner every time is how guys end up scared to touch anything.
