Got cocky on the Eagle Rock loop in Arkansas and paid for it with one stupid mistake
Two summers back I tried to link the Eagle Rock Loop with a side trip up to the fire tower near Bard Springs, thinking I could knock it out in three days. Around mile 14 my right ankle rolled on a wet rock crossing the Little Missouri, and I felt something pop. I cut the side trip, wrapped it with duct tape and a sock, and hobbled the last 8 miles out slow, which honestly saved the trip. Now I always check the water level gauge at the Albert Pike campground before I commit to those crossings, has anyone else had a route fall apart over one bad step?
