I finally got a permit for the Enchantments but wasted $75 on a bear canister rental.

I rented a huge canister from an outfitter in Leavenworth, only to find out the trailhead has free ones you can borrow. I lost the rental fee because I didn't check the ranger station's website first. Anyone know other popular spots where you can borrow gear like that?

Actually think the free ones are a great deal. They get the job done and save you cash for other trip stuff.

Ugh, that's rough (and honestly a pretty common mistake). Honestly though, I always bring my own canister - the free ones at trailheads can be pretty beat up and sometimes they're all gone.

Yeah, the free ones can be super hit or miss. I always call the ranger station directly now to check what's actually in stock.
