That $180 mosquito trap did nothing all summer
Bought one of those fancy propane mosquito traps back in May thinking it would clear out my yard for backyard dinners. After 3 months and one refill, I caught maybe 4 mosquitos total while getting bitten every night. Anyone else have better luck with a different setup, or should I just stick to citronella candles and a fan?

The 4 caught in 3 months sounds about right for those propane traps... they're really more for like acreage, not a normal backyard. I ran one for two seasons and finally read the manual, said it needs to be placed like 30 feet from where people sit, which sort of defeats the purpose if you don't have a huge lot. Also, they mostly catch the wrong species, the ones that fly in from the woods, not the little tiger mosquitos that bite during the day. A box fan on low pointed at your table plus a Thermacell has done more for my deck than that $180 unit ever did. Honestly, the trap might work if you've got a mosquito breeding pond next door, but for regular yard use, you're better off dumping out any standing water and using a fan.
