Vent: spent 3 summers mowing my St. Louis lawn at 2 inches before I realized the roots were frying
Now I'm torn because the old guys at the hardware store swear short grass looks cleaner, but a guy at the extension office said I was basically cooking the soil, so do you all cut high in July or keep it low and just water more?
Used to be team short grass all day because my grandpa swore by it and his yard always looked sharp. Then two summers ago my St. Louis lawn went brown in patches no matter how much I watered, and the extension guy told me tall blades shade the dirt and keep roots cool so they go deeper. Now I cut at 3.5 to 4 inches in July and the lawn handles the heat way better.
