Vent: string trimmer died mid-fence line, of course on the last section
My Stihl trimmer just quit on me Saturday while I was finishing the border along the back fence, maybe 30 feet from done. It started sputtering, then a loud pop and no restart, smell of burnt plastic. I pulled the head apart and found the drive shaft had snapped clean, probably from catching on a hidden piece of rebar near the compost bin. I had to dig out my old manual edger to finish, which took another hour in the heat, but the job got done. Has anyone had luck upgrading to a solid steel shaft instead of the standard one, or is this just a wear item I should plan to replace every few seasons?
