My first attempt at sourdough didn't flop like I expected
I finally tried making a starter from scratch after putting it off for months. It actually doubled in size after just 5 days and my first loaf came out with a decent crumb. Anyone else get surprised by a bake going right on the first try?

Same here, @wyattramirez, 500°F in a Dutch oven saved my first loaf too.

What temperature did you bake at? I found that a hot Dutch oven at 500°F for the first 20 minutes gave me the best crust and rise, @nathan_kim. Lower temps just made mine collapse into a dense brick before I figured that out.
