My boxed cake fell flat in the middle of a birthday party prep at 4pm and I fixed it with one weird trick
I was baking a chocolate cake for my niece's 8th birthday party at my sister's house in Springfield, and the middle sank so bad it looked like a crater. The party started at 6pm, so I had two hours to save it. I cut out the sunken center, filled the hole with extra frosting and fresh strawberries, and flipped it upside down so the flat bottom became the top. It looked like a normal cake after I covered it in sprinkles and those cheap candles from the dollar store. My niece said it was the best cake she ever had, even though I knew it was a hot mess underneath. Has anyone else done the flip trick with a cake that sank, or do you just start over from scratch?
Been there, done that, and honestly the flip trick saved me more than once. Last time mine sank I did pretty much the same thing, cut the middle out and jammed it full of pudding and berries before flipping it. Nobody at the party knew the difference, and your niece thinking it was the best cake ever is really all that matters.
