My grandma insisted I use room temp butter for cookies, but I was in a rush and used it cold last Christmas.

The cookies spread into one giant, thin sheet on the pan, proving she was right about that old rule, so has anyone else had a baking fail turn into a permanent lesson?

Ever try to skip sifting flour? I did once and ended up with lumpy pancakes that somehow tasted like raw dough.

My buddy Jake swore sifting was a waste of time. He made a birthday cake for his kid that had these weird flour pockets all through it. The whole thing tasted like sweet paste, and the birthday boy cried. Jake sifts everything now, even when the box says it's pre-sifted. Some lessons you only learn the hard way.

Honestly, a good whisk can break up those lumps just fine. @rivera.hannah might have just needed to mix the batter a bit longer. Sometimes the old-school methods are more about ritual than real results.
