I finally stopped fighting cowlicks the way my old shop teacher swore by, and my chair turned over faster
My first shop teacher back in Toledo had one rule for cowlicks: cut them wet and cut them short, no exceptions. I followed that for almost nine years because he was the guy who got me through my first fades when I could barely hold clippers straight. Then a guy sat down in my chair about three months ago, real thick hair, two stubborn swirls at the crown, and I went at it his way like always. He left unhappy, said the back looked like a patch of grass after a mower. I felt awful. So the next appointment I tried something different, cut it mostly dry and left a little more length than felt right, just to see. Turns out that gave me room to blend the swirl instead of chopping into it, and the cut sat flat for a solid three weeks. I've done it that way on maybe 20 guys since and not one complaint yet. Any of you got a cowlick trick that goes against what you were taught?
